When I saw all your pictures to that beautiful song, I knew in my heart that Tess had slipped away. I'm glad she went at home surrounded by those that loved her. She was a very lucky doggy to have found you to adopt her; and as you described, it was just meant to be. Here's a poem someone posted on the AB once upon a time. IF IT SHOULD BE Before I grow too frail and weak, And all that's left is peace in sleep, I know you'll do what must be done, To end this fight that can't be won. I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep. I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here." I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea, You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me. I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore. I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more. I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care. I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there. I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key. I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me." You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair. I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there. It's possible for me to be so near you everyday. To say to you with certainty, "I never went away." You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew, in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you. The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning and say "good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning." I went to bed, not knowing. Then today, as I watched the rest of the "song" I knew what the final post would be. And I can't stop crying - for you, for me, for all of us who loved little Tess. I am so thankful that she died peacefully and at home, with you close by. I think we were all giving her permission, these last few days, as she struggled to keep going. As you said, she was "winding down" and ready to rest. I have to imagine that she has met Toto, and my Maggie, and lots of other special friends of her Tessville family. And now she's truly free. When I opened the video last night, I just knew. I did not want to sing the song to it's end. It is a beautiful tribute Linda, perfect and beautiful. I think Tess would smile... My Dad asked me to tell you something for him. He said he thinks it takes a very special person to take a life into their home, and their heart, at the age you took Tess, knowing the road ahead would not be easy. You took her when many would have turned away, too hard, too much work, too much trouble. To my Dad, in his words, only a very special person would take on that responsibility. He admires the person you are very much. Me too. I hope the days ahead lessen the sadness you and yours must feel now. And that in time, the pictures bring smiles to everyone here. Instead of tears. Tess, Sweetheart, I look forward to the day I get to see you smile in person. As Susie so eloquently said, it is the way I too, will remember you, smiling and happy. | Our New Addition ~ It's A Westie! shastie2 (771 ) View Listings | Report Nov-20-04 16:06 PST Today we adopted a little Westie girl from a local kill shelter. She is older, she has cataracts, she's a bit stiff when she moves ~ but she is just a joy to have around! She goes for her grooming on Monday. For now, she has that scruffy terrier thing going. Here she is gazing out the patio doors ~ 'Where Am I?' |
